AIDS Lyfecycle Fundraiser

THE LIL HOMIE ROBERT aka "CHICKEN HAWK" IS HAVING A FUNDRAISER.  GET OUT THERE SUNDAY AND SUPPORT.

Details:
My Name’s Robert Pacheco, i’m a 21 yr old bike nerd, commuter, and ocassional street racer. From June 3rd to the 9th i will be taking on one of the biggest challenges i have set my mind to. 545 MILES, from San Francisco To Los Angeles, the AIDS Lifecycle 2012, along with thousands of other cyclist, all to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We ride because the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center agencies need funding to provide the critical services and education needed to meet the growing needs of our community. Ultimately, we ride so that someday, we won’t have to.
I have been riding a bike for 3 years now. I will be doing all 545 miles on what i know best, my track back. Single speed, fixed gear. This will be the longest ride i have ever done on my bike.
On Sunday, May 27, 2012, i will be hosting a fundraiser and a race, all to raise money to reach my goal of $3,000. A cover charge of $10 will get you a plate of food, a drink, and the opportunity to race for a few prizes. There will also be raffles, a few custom art pieces from local artists. The big raffle will be for a complete fixed gear bike. Any donation is welcome, $5, $20, $50, $100, $250 anything and everything will be fully appreciated. I have set up a paypal account, the link I will provide below or come visit me at Orange 20 bikes in east hollywood.

The ‘Nissan Ride Before the Pros’, taking place in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday May 20, 2012 from 8:00-9:30 AM, will allow cyclists of all levels to ride on a 5-mile closed circuit course which will be part of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California’s eighth and final stage taking place that same day. FREE to participants of all experience levels, the Nissan Ride Before the Pros will begin and end at the official finish line where the professional riders competing in the 2012 Amgen Tour of California will cross to complete the 42.6-mile stage they started in Beverly Hills on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills earlier that day.

No route, however you get there is up to your knowledge of the city. This year, in honor of our 3 year anniversary, we will be hosting the WHIS3 in Brooklyn NY, Los Angeles CA, and San Antonio, TX on the same day!!! After parties are TBA, but request to host have already been put in our ear. As you know we like to ride hard and play hard so lets have fun!!!!" Hope to see everyone at this event...don't miss out!

675 (Melissa) Memorial Bridge Race - Video

Check out this nice edit put together by our very own CACHE1:
This was one awesome race thru the streets of LA.  The concept was to race thru all the bridges that shoot out and back into down town . The route was 13 miles of heart pumping sprints and running red lights, the messenger way!  We dedicate this race in memory of all our fallen messenger friends, including our dear friend Melissa "Mouse" who past away last year on 4-20....peace out!

Messengers Stage Race from Boston To Washington DC

From:  Messengers Race From Boston To Washington DC - BikeRadar

This week a handful of cycling messengers finished an alley cat-style stage race, called East Coast Messenger Stage Race (ECMSR), spanning from Boston to Washington DC. Team Wolfpack swept the podium, with Aram Dellalian winning the race with a total accumulated general classification time of 26:21:54.
Dellalian's teammates, Fabian Vazquez and Jon Budinoff took second and third respectively, with respective times of 26:23:30 and 26:49:13.

The first annual event finished Tuesday 26 September after a competitive five days of racing and orienteering inspired by a combination of popular underground urban messenger events and traditional road racing. “I've used the term messenger partly to honor my background and this event's inspiration, and partly to signal to participants the unconventional and largely self-sufficient spirit of my race,” said event promoter Austin Horse.

“Competitive tours have long been the ultimate form of bike racing, or at least the most inspiring,” he said. “Often when I'm racing alone and unsupported on open roads I take courage from the stories of the early years of the grand tours. Over the years people in the messenger community have organized point-to-point races across long distances. A primary goal has been to get everybody from one city to another for some purpose.”

Organizers of the ECMSR limited the field size to 30 messengers, who were categorized individually or as part of a team.

The event will kicked off on September 22 at Revolution Bikes in Boston, Massachusetts. From there messengers made their way to Devils Gear Bike Shop in New Haven, Connecticut. Stage two took riders from New Haven to Times Up! and the Brooklyn Bike Jumble in Brooklyn, New York. Stage three took riders from New York City to the Sweathogs Racing and ReLoad Bags in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The penultimate stage four ran between Philadelphia and the HoldFast and Bmore Fixed in Baltimore, Maryland. The final stage of the five-day event finished in Washington DC on Tuesday.

The USA is no stranger to top-level messenger racing and will host the 2012 Cycle Messenger World Championships in Chicago, Illinois. The event is expected to attract upwards of 800 messengers, as only those who working as bike messengers are eligible for the world title. This year’s Cycle Messenger Championships was held from July 27-31 in Warsaw, Poland.
